Module 2 · Lesson 1

What Positioning Actually Means for a Solopreneur

Positioning is one of those words that gets used so often it loses meaning. In corporate marketing it means something specific. For a solopreneur, it means something simpler and more personal.

Your positioning is the answer to one question: why should this specific person choose you over every other option available to them?

Not why you're better than everyone. Not why you're the best in the world. Why you're the right choice for this person, at this stage of their journey, with this specific situation.

Positioning isn't about being number one. It's about being undeniably right for the right person.

Most solopreneurs skip positioning entirely. They describe what they do — coaching, consulting, design — and leave the buyer to figure out whether they're the right fit. That puts all the work on the prospect. And most prospects won't do that work. They'll move on to someone whose message makes the fit obvious.

Why positioning matters for your brand build

Your Canvas needs your positioning to build anything meaningful. The landing page, the messaging framework, the gift asset concept — all of it flows from a clear positioning statement. Without it, everything gets built on assumptions. With it, every piece of the build has a direction.

Positioning is also what separates you from the noise. The solopreneurs who stand out aren't necessarily better — they're clearer. They've made a decision about who they're for and they communicate that decision in everything they do.
